There is almost always a reason we keep a particular photograph.
It might capture someone’s smile exactly as we remember it. Perhaps it’s the quiet look a pet gives us when there is clearly room beside us on the couch. Or maybe it’s a candid moment that felt ordinary when it was taken, but has grown more precious with time.
At Tenera Design Co., those personal details are where every custom piece begins.
3d subsurface crystal engraving is one of the most unique offerings in our studio, giving us a way to turn flat photographs, original artwork, and meaningful designs into timeless keepsakes. Engraved entirely inside clear optical glass, the image appears suspended in mid-air—creating a floating, three-dimensional effect that never fades, scratches, or wears away.
Our passion for 3d subsurface crystal engraving drives us to create pieces that tell your unique story.
It is a fascinating blend of technology and sentiment. But for us, the most meaningful part is helping you choose the story that belongs inside.
Understanding the intricacies of 3d subsurface crystal engraving allows us to deliver remarkable results.
Most traditional laser engraving etches the outer surface of a material. Subsurface laser engraving takes the entire process beneath the glass.
Communicate your loved ones’ stories through beautiful 3d subsurface crystal engraving that lasts forever.
Using high-precision laser technology focused within K9 optical crystal—a premium, ultra-clear glass known for its brilliance and clarity—microscopic points are created at exact depths inside the block. Together, millions of these tiny laser points form a high-definition image, while the outer surface remains completely smooth to the touch.
Lighting dramatically changes how an engraved crystal looks. Pairing your piece with an illuminated LED light base casts soft light upward through the optical glass. This brings minute facial details, fur textures, and engraved lettering into vivid view—making it a striking feature piece in any softly lit room.
(And despite the technical name, K9 crystal isn't strictly for dogs—though around our studio, dogs are always welcome!)
Custom engraved photo crystals adapt beautifully to balanced occasions across life, work, and home:
We offer a variety of solid optical crystal profiles to suit different photo compositions and display styles:
You don’t need a studio-quality photograph to begin a custom project.
A sharp, well-lit digital photo with clear features gives us the strongest starting point. For pet portraits, having visible eyes, ears, and distinct fur patterns helps our design software translate subtle features into three-dimensional space.
Our dedication to 3d subsurface crystal engraving ensures your custom piece will be cherished for generations.
However, we understand that the most cherished photograph isn’t always technically perfect. It might be an older scanned photo, a quick smartphone picture, or the only image you have of a moment that cannot be replaced.
Not sure if your photo will work? Send it to us! We examine every image individually, explain what is possible with 3D depth rendering, and guide you on layout options before anything is engraved.
